Esser, a legend in his lunchtime

Robin Esser, executive managing editor of the Daily Mail was the guest at a meeting of the World's Greatest Lunch Club at Joe Allen's in London on February 13th. Robin, pictured right,  joined the Daily Express in 1957 as a reporter and later became editor of the William Hickey column. He later gave their first jobs on a national newspaper to both Nigel Dempster and Paul Dacre. He succeeded John Junor as editor of the Sunday Express before moving to the Mail 1991.

Present at the lunch were Roger Watkins, Alan Frame, Terry Manners, Terry Evans, Dick Dismore, Ashley Walton and Alastair 'Bingo' McIntyre.

One of the many tales recounted over the lunch table was the Mystery of Richard Addis's Teacup.
