Manchester Reunion

NICK HILL reports from the frozen northern wastes


Although it was said to be open to all those banged out from the nationals in Manchester, it was almost entirely a Daily Mail gathering on May 12 at the Portland Thistle in Manchester. Some 75 turned up (including spouses, etc.) and some partied until 4am next day. Thoroughly enjoyed it, getting the train back next afternoon. Various luminaries from the past showed up including, surprisingly, Charlie Wilson, once back bench of the Daily Mail and later briefly editor of The Times.

I had to complain, of course, that on the list of function rooms available, the Dennis Law Suite was one "n" too many and could they fix it. Pretty sure they won't. 

Jon Smith, who helped discover several lost souls for the party, couldn't make it because he was promoting some obscure motor car somewhere.
